Re: Harry Kane
Even more so if he helps pull off a smash/grab off Leicester, given the wilderness years at the club.
Definitely more than a chance.

He has seemed a bit out of sorts thus far, and Woy may stick with Vardy & Stuwwidge for the Slovies..

He looks a bit tensive before the match starts. He's under a fair bit of pressure to perform though so it's understandable. Seems a little low on confidence too.Galfon wrote:He has seemed a bit out of sorts thus far, and Woy may stick with Vardy & Stuwwidge for the Slovies..

Time is on his side but this was one campaign for him to forget. He has been very poor.
Little disappointed by Alli too. Was expecting him to come to life a bit but it never happened. We'll have to wait for the autobiography in a few weeks to find out whether that was down to form or the system or something else.
So many poor performers and they kept getting more chances.

It was the system. Picked 7 players for a high press, and 2 CBs who could probably also do so. Then stuck Rooney in the middle of them all, and sat off.WaspInWales wrote:Time is on his side but this was one campaign for him to forget. He has been very poor.

It was a tactical abomination at every turn. Kane taking free kicks and corners, muddled thinking over strikers and midfield, the shoehorning in of a truly terrible Rooney...
England now have two teams playing a high press at club level, and they can build a team around them:
Clyne/Walker
Rose
Dier
Henderson/Milner
Alli
Lallana
Sturridge
Kane
Just fill in the blanks.
That they all went to the Euros yet we didn't play to their strengths is a failure of the coaching team.

I was very impressed by Rose and Dier. Rashford's performance in the last 5 mins was funny.
I seem to remember someone like Kevin Keegan saying that England would never prosper at the big tournaments until the governing bodies reintroduced the physical aspect to soccer.
Well, they did reintroduce the physical aspect at this tournie. Some of the games had a physical aspect that would have been ok at Elland Road on a Wednesday night...and it made no difference.

One season wonder.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39970575
- Kane is the fifth player in Premier League history to score 25 or more goals in successive seasons - Robbie Fowler, Thierry Henry,
Alan Shearer and Robin van Persie are the others.
- Kane has now scored 10 goals against Leicester, more than against any other side.
- Kane is the fifth player to score three or more hat-tricks in a Premier League season.
-In Kane, Alli and Son Heung-min, Tottenham now have three players with 20 or more goals in all competitions this season - more
than any other club in the Premier League or the EFL.

Great club player, benefiting from being in an excellent club side.
Still not convinced he can cut it at international level though.

Re: Harry Kane
* That Mauricio Pochettino actually felt it necessary to reiterate that Harry Kane is “one of the best strikers in the world” after his four-goal salvo against Leicester in midweek speaks volumes. His image, his nationality and perhaps even his club are all contradictions when it comes to judging one of football’s true elite forwards.
With his second hat-trick in the space of a week in a resounding victory over Hull, Kane registered his 27th, 28th and 29th strikes of the Premier League season. Only four players in Europe’s top five leagues have scored more, and while Lionel Messi (29 years old) and Cristiano Ronaldo (31) are undoubtedly in a bracket of their own, Kane (23) belongs in the same breath as Edinson Cavani (30), Robert Lewandowski (28) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (27). Any arguments to the contrary now just look stupid.
Kane has now scored more Premier League hat-tricks in the last three days than Gareth Bale, Eric Cantona, Diego Costa, Olivier Giroud, Cristiano Ronaldo and Daniel Sturridge have managed in their entire careers. Just four players have scored more Premier League hat-tricks in history, and he is still only 23. His 29 goals have come in 30 games, and he has missed two separate spells this season with ankle injuries. He is the first striker to win consecutive Premier League Golden Boots since Robin van Persie. He is most certainly real, and he is most certainly really bloody good.

Hmmm expected Kane to finish that chance.
Some of Alli's passing hasn't been up to his usual standard so far.
Starting to dominate possession though.

Re: Harry Kane
He just keeps scoring.
Got some way to prove world class credentials imo, but he's easily the best English striker at the moment.
For all my misgivings over Lukaku, he's proving to be a bargain at £75m!
He (and his agent) has been bigging himself up for a few seasons now, but it looks like Everton may have been holding him back. It could just be a purple patch and new club combination. United have also had a very, very kind run of matches. Easiest start of the season for a long time. Easy-ish CL group and nothing to worry about on the EFL draw either, so time will tell if Lukaku is up there and if United are back, but they're oozing confidence and rightly so as they have put teams to the sword and scored for fun.
Some big games coming up with Liverpool and Benfica away and Benfica and Spurs at home.

Re: Harry Kane
http://www.football365.com/news/f365s-e ... st-striker
There is Sergio Aguero, but his goalscoring record is far worse and his injury record slightly suspect. There is Luis Suarez, but he has scored twice for Barcelona this season and is 30. There is Robert Lewandowski, but Bayern Munich are stronger domestically than Tottenham, which bears consideration. There is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but he is now 28. There is Edinson Cavani. There is Romelu Lukaku. There is Cristiano Ronaldo.
And then there is Harry Kane. By any measure, the Premier League, England and Tottenham have the most in-form centre forward in the world. We have covered Kane’s ridiculous statistics before, but you could produce a monthly edition of that feature and barely have to repeat a line such is his current magnificence.
Huddersfield Town did not make life difficult for Mauricio Pochettino. The John Smiths Stadium may have welcomed the first truly elite Premier League team and the arrival of autumn with a cacophony of West Yorkshire noise, but it failed to hold back the tide for long. It’s all very well pressing high up the pitch to try and turn over possession, but not when it leaves a huge space behind a high defensive line that Christian Eriksen can play ball into at will.
David Wagner may concede that his tactics were naive, but might also shrug and point out that Tottenham are a great deal better than Huddersfield. These are not the days on which Town’s Premier League safety will be decided.
There are few better managers in Europe at identifying and exposing tactical weaknesses than Pochettino. If Eriksen could exploit the vast swathes of green in front of Jonas Lössl, Kane could make hay in them. His first goal was swept home with his right foot and his second curled home with his left. There was time in between for Tottenham to score the type of team goal that reawakens bleary eyes when watching on Match of the Day. Ben Davies was the eventual scorer; perhaps Danny Rose could Google it and have a watch from home.
These are crucial victories in any successful season, however simple. Four days after a trip to Cyprus, Tottenham effectively declared at half-time. Gone was the intensity, gone was the high-intensity press and gone too was the desperate desire to score goals. Spurs face Liverpool, West Ham, Manchester United and Real Madrid twice before the first day of November is out. Rest is the elixir of life at the top of the Premier League table.
Yet enough of the team for now, and back to the individual. Thirteen away goals in his last six league games. Two or more in a league game nine times in 2017. Thirteen goals in his last eight games for club and country. Fifty-one goals since the start of last season. These are the type of figures that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have normalised over the last decade, but only them. Kane in 2017 is bridging the gap between the mortal and ethereal.
The true majesty is not to be found in the numbers, despite the temptation to blind ourselves with Kane’s sweet science, but in a sensation felt by everyone watching his latest goalscoring exploit. After nine minutes, Chris Löwe failed to connect with a clearance and allowed Kane to run onto the ball, 40 yards from goal. And that was that.
Sport’s intrigue lies in its lack of script, the uncertainty over every event and match the crucial ingredient in establishing dependency. Know what’s going to happen and interest is quickly lost, or so the theory goes. Yet when Kane bore down on Lössl and Huddersfield’s goal, there was no doubt. Over the last few months, Kane has become a clear-cut chance robot. His demand to shoot from unlikely areas means that his shot conversion rate will never near perfection, but place Kane in front of goal and with ball at feet and the goalkeeper may as well stand aside and applaud. The rest of us prepare for the goal celebration.
Scripted, but hardly unintriguing. So extraordinary and unexpected is Kane’s rise that each new zenith only forces us to further assess our expectations of what he can achieve, both with Tottenham and England. The away support sang with tongues in cheeks about their “one-season wonder”, but it is the fairytale edge to this story that makes it so absorbing.
The inevitable back story of modern football is that Tottenham’s ability to match Kane’s personal achievements will be called into question. Yet for those of us contemplating and celebrating this incredible purple patch that has become purple career, such questions are a thousand miles away. Not since Ashley Cole have England had the best player in the world in his position and not since Alan Shearer in 1996 can we claim to have had the best striker. We’re running out of ways to compliment Harry Kane, but one thing is clear: the boy’s a bit special.

Re: Harry Kane
Way OTT.
Kane is very good and in superb scoring form, but l think the world class plaudits need to be reserved until he has provided the goods at the highest level. Some players thrive at domestic level in a number of sports, but it doesn't make them world class no matter how often they score for their team. Think Chris Ashton and I'm sure there are many other examples of prolific goal scorers at club level in football, who have failed to hit those heights internationally or in UEFA or FIFA competitions.
Time is certainly on his side, so it will be interesting to see how he fares in the CL this season, especially against Real Madrid. England are just about on the plane to Russia so that's another big opportunity to prove himself at the top level.
