Intolerable working conditions

Post by Lizard »

At this time of year, the angle of the morning sun glints uncomfortably off the sparkling harbour waters somewhat spoiling the elevated view from my office over to Rangitoto Island.

Thank God you are only moaning about the sunlight this time!

I thought it was going to be one of your rants about something really significant like the coffee

Just block your diary out for an hour or so each day for the time in question.

Mark it down as a slot for ' w o r k ' ...

Actually, between the two of you, you might have cracked it. I'll just move my morning coffee break to the affected time slot.

Sorted.

We're 6 weeks into "Autumn" and it's still shorts, t-shirts and bare feet weather here. Spot of dew in the morning though, which makes collecting breakfast feijoas a slightly damp experience.

Again, you might choose to delegate this task, releasing valuable time for grabbing an egg mufffin or two from the local drive-thru..

Mate, I've lived in Dunedin and London. I was camping out in hand-dug snow caves when I was 14. I've seen my laundry freeze solid on the washing line. I can deal with cold no worries but I don't think it's morally superior to do so when there is a much more pleasant alternative.

And Auckland has its hardships, too. Silver Audi drivers for instance. I had to brake a little sharply at one point this morning when one changed lanes cutting me off. Damn near spilt my long black.

Yes, if you live in Auckland it's important to get out and into the real world every now and then. I'm just enjoying the rural outlook from my holiday home right now, in fact.

Intolerable working conditions

Post by Lizard »

Bloody hell. Here I am trying to reflect on a difficult professional issue (which craft beer bar to take a client to tonight) and some larrikin is blasting a JetSki around right in front of me. See him there?
Image

Some people have got no respect.

EDIT: actually, on screen you can't quite make him out over by the far ferry terminal but you get the point.

Will Auckland city ever get it's shit together and do something decent with the waterfront. It truly is an eyesore.

At least you can count the cars on the pier, how many red ones today?

In all seriousness, I think it's a crying shame Auckland hasn't made more of it's waterfront. Surely there is somewhere else to unload container ships. And to be fair, if you look to the left they've started to make an effort. But still, it's nasty. Sydney, Chicago, those cities are examples of how to make use of your cities waterfront. Toronto, like Auckland, has a big industrial park immediately in front of the downtown core, well it's separated from it by a six lane elevated highway, which is even worse.
