Ryder Cup - Whistling Straits
And they're off !
Will be a tuffy with little European support due to travel restrictions, and a relatively outranked and inexperienced team..mind you strange things happen. Early indications are that exuberance/enthusiastic support for the home team and respect for the opposing team can be uncomfortable bedfellows in this competition.

The course looks absolutely brutal. Some of the driving has made it look even more so. McIlroy and Poulter are having a nightmare, so far.

Re: Ryder Cup - Whistling Straits
USA 3 - 1 Eur
after Session 1 (Foursomes).
Session 2 match-ups for Fourballs next up:
1. Johnson/Schauffele vs Casey/Wiesberger
2. DeChambeau/Scheffler vs Rahm/Hatton
3. Finau/English vs McIlroy/Lowry
4. Thomas/Cantlay vs Fleetwood/Hovland
USA 6 - 2 Eur
after Session 2
A few thumping defeats in there, and a mighty challenge ahead now.

USA looking ominously good. Will take something quite dramatic to change things around.
The course is great. The 12th is some hole.

Yes, USA 9 - 3 Eur after Session 3 (Foursomes #2).
Unstoppable it seems.
Hats off to Garcia though.

Credit the USA who are playing well but this European effort is pretty low grade. There doesnt seem to be any spark amongst the players apart from Sergio and Rahm.

Nearly home and hosed -
USA 11 - 5 Eur at the end of Session 4 (Fourballs #2)
Just 3-and-half points from 12 matches should be a doddle.
Johnson & Morikawa have had a great couple of days.

Re: Ryder Cup - Whistling Straits
The only shame for the USA is some absolute belting shots aren't going to gain much lore status as they're just going to be subsumed by the margin of victory

Re: Ryder Cup - Whistling Straits
Could well be so - there have been 20 USA - Eur matches since '79Digby wrote:..they're just going to be subsumed by the margin of victory
and the record margin stands at 18.5 - 9.5; [ USA in '81 (pre Jacklin) and back-to-back Eur thumpings in '04 and '06.]
That should be extra motivation for Harry's heroes..

The problem is, looking at points per player, too many are Harry’s zeroes.Galfon wrote:Could well be so - there have been 20 USA - Eur matches since '79Digby wrote:..they're just going to be subsumed by the margin of victory

DeChambeau has managed a few ridiculous things - I hope his modus operandi doesn't get scientifically proven, or the sport may go the same way as rugby.

20.5 - 7.5 'twill be, if it finishes as it stands..
u/d: Morikawa's half takes them over the line.
Well deserved victory, not much of a contest tbf.

Re: Ryder Cup - Whistling Straits
Final Score:
USA 19 - 9 Eur
Nice ending for Poulter & Westwood, not quite enough to prevent a new record score since Europe started competing together in '79.
