Midhalf water breaks.

Post by Mr Mwenda »

Is stopping after 20 minutes each half a thing now? I have noticed it during the rugby championship. Has there been some sort of ruling?

Yes, it's to prevent water carriers coming on at every stoppage. They now get fixed breaks to come on. Overall I'd not be surprised if it speeds the game up, but it "feels" like it may slow it down.

It's always been a thing that's been available at the discretion of the referee, so in high heat the ref can call for a water break mid-half. And as Raggs said, they're trying to regulate water breaks because sides were using them for fuckery.

The MLR in Yank country has them every game so they can squeeze in a quick ad break. I don't mind so much there, as it's a young league that needs all the revenue it can get, but I really don't want that to migrate to other competitions.

Ta, interesting to see if it will be standard in the club game too.

It’s a load of bollox. Shouldn’t have breaks or allow water carriers during each half. Same as the crowd. Have a drink and a piss before, at half time or after. Don’t keep getting up blocking the view or making ny adjust my sitting position so you can get your fat arse through.

Isnt there ample time to take on water when a team scores?

You'd have thought so but the Saints scrum coach apparently needed to bring on water at every scrum in the Prem semi final. Sometimes for the ref as well as his players, was completely ridiculous and nearly kicked off with Genge in the second half.

Need to change the laws so that water carriers have to be medical staff. None of these coaching breaks mid game.

I believe they already have done that, as a response to South Africa and Erasmus seeing how far the rules would bend.

Not sure where to place this but it’s sort of related. Just read campese’s latest complaint about the state of the current game. Constant stopping. Can’t say I often to agree with him but seems to me to have a point. Thoughts?

Jolly good. Haven't noticed specifically with the internationals this summer. Will watch the Prem matches next weekend with interest to see if it's filtered down to club level. Hope so, it was getting ridiculous.

I misread this as "winter breaks".
