European Cup Games
Decent effort from the Dragons to draw 31-31 with the Lions away. Couldn’t see the game so was relying on the WOL updates; which is an exercise in frustration. But a reasonable start and it seems like they could have won.

Re: European Cup Games
Agreed, decent result and they need to follow up next week. Flanagan has made a good start.
Was away a couple of weeks ago and missed a few transfers. Screech’s move to Cardiff hasn’t really worked, pleased to see him back at Dragons. With Rowlands moving in the Summer, I hope that he stays.
Also missed Beck going to Cardiff and Owen Williams to Ospreys, good players both, and I hope it works for them, too.

Cracking win for Cardiff. A totally one sided match.

They seem to be getting the winning habit. In fact, the thrashing habit. Good to see.

Wish we HAD been playing Sale.
Instead of Tigers' seconds.
With half of Wales on the pitch.

Seen this before with the Ospreys. I think it was last season they played Newcastle in the challenge cup and brought back their Wales players for the game. Looked totally disjointed and ended up losing.

Yeah, that's why the regions and Wales must align their tactics (and everything else) so there's nothing to adjust to when moving from club to country and back again.pompey-zebra wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 7:46 amSeen this before with the Ospreys. On a minor note I was pleased to see North playing at 13 for the Ospreys - a little bit of alignment!?!

Cardiff smashed Newcastle out of sight and according to the Geordie radio commentator, "The scoreline didn't flatter Cardiff."

Re: European Cup Games
That was a very good win for the Ospreys. Absolutely bags of dog from the pack and an outstanding performance from the centres.

Wait...did the other teams put out 2nds? Or did we just genuinely give some folks an early yuletide log?

Re: European Cup Games
Well it was a substantially "weaker" (on paper) Os team than the one that played the Tigers. I'm not sure how seriously the Cheetahs and Falcons are taking the Mickey, but right now who cares? Anything that gets Welsh teams Ws - and thumping ones at that - has to be welcomed in the current climate.

Never look a gift win in the mouth. If nothing else it might help build confidence.

Re: European Cup Games
Christmas came early for the regions. Or have they all suddenly realised that they need to make a good impression on Gatland right now.
I don't know what team Montpellier put out but this is top Euro competition (and a home match for them), presumably they must have been trying to win??
The Ospreys forwards were too good for them, really strong at scrum, lineout and maul, committed defence. Webb was his usual self, Owen Williams looked good, Keiran Williams was excellent (and not for the first time this season - Gatland take note). Well deserved win. And nice to see the ref having no patience for players holding on to the ball when penalised.
Dragons were unlucky, gutting for them and Max Clark* in particular.
* having said that, I read in Wikipedia that 'Clark turned down an approach from Wales to be a member of their 2017 summer tour'. So frankly he deserves it .
Great results for Cardiff and the Scarlets, would have enjoyed seeing those.

Re: European Cup Games
Was away for the weekend and missed all games ! Great scorelines for Cardiff and Scarlets. Cardiff are having a decent season so far and hopefully a couple of wins will work wonders for the Scarlets. Don’t think that the opposition was the strongest in either game.
Shame for the Dragons, looked like they were leading for large parts of the match. Sounds like Bradley Roberts is going well.
Great result for the Ospreys and about time, too. I think that Toby Booth would have been feeling some pressure given their results so far this season, on paper in my opinion they look comfortably the strongest team in Wales.
There is the usual clamour in Wales online for Rhys Webb to be looked at, not sure that Gatland will, though. Morgan Morris might get a call up now, he puts in a performance every time. Really interested to see how Owen Williams does there, he also has a good chance of a recall, possibly at 10 in Anscombe’s absence.
Glad to hear that Kieran Williams went well. When he got a run in the team pre injury they used him too much as a crash ball type player, but there is more to his game than that, he has pace and is a decent passer of the ball.
Maybe Gatland will look at Rhys Davies too, with Rowlands still injured.
