Rhys Webb retires from international rugby

With 100 days to go to the start of the Rugby World Cup, Rhys Webb has decided to retire. After signing a contract at a new club one wonders if he got a better deal by agreeing to be available during the international windows? Or perhaps he just didn’t fancy international training camps and the time away from home?

A definite loss for our World Cup campaign, I think he would definitely have been part of the final squad. A world class player in his day it’s a shame to see him go but he is also going under his own terms and I can only wish him the best of luck for the future.

I did have a thought, that his opportunity to get a better contract away from the Ospreys was to become unavailable for Welsh duty. I think a lot of French teams would want him as a player, but not to lose him in international windows, and whilst he could have waited until after RWC , it may have hampered getting it sorted , but it is purely supposition .
