U20 World Cup
Wales v NZ. Glorious first half. Gutting second half. Cruel 1 point loss. Numerous players destined to !make a mark on the senior scene. They need to keep it together for more than 40 minutes though.

So close. Promising start for Mark Jones though after a six nations that wasn’t great. And very clear that contrary to recent reports, we do have a pipeline of younger players coming through.

Good to see Morse playing 8. I was thinking we just had another great 7 coming through.Sandydragon wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 9:23 am So close. They didn't mention the wind but I'm pretty sure the wind was from left to right and quite strong, it annoys me when the commentators ignore this as it is a big advantage to play with the wind.

It's fair to say there was a bit of a momentum shift at half time!Numbers wrote: ↑Mon Jun 26, 2023 1:24 pmThey didn't mention the wind but I'm pretty sure the wind was from left to right and quite strong, it annoys me when the commentators ignore this as it is a big advantage to play with the wind.Son of Mathonwy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 11:28 pm Wales v NZ. Bizarre match today, Wales were behind to Japan, shipping 19 consecutive points after a comfortable start. Japan’s captain was sent off in the second half and Wales scored 3 tries in the last 5 minutes to eventually win 41-19.
Not the greatest performance and France lie in wait, but a win is always a win and always worth celebrating if you come from behind.

Worrying how our scrum and maul were second best to Japan, at least till we got our subs on. Very enjoyable last ten minutes for us but we could have lost that one and without that completely unnecessary (but deserved) red for Japan we might well have.Numbers wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2023 11:34 amMorgan Morse looking the business again.Wallpaperman wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 3:15 pm Bizarre match today, Wales were behind to Japan, shipping 19 consecutive points after a comfortable start. France this afternoon, I fear we may get savaged in the set piece but fingers crossed.

Just caught up with the live feed on the fail website and it's halftime, 24-7 to France but they've just had a player sent off so maybe a glimmer of hope, set piece poor as anticipated.Son of Mathonwy wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2023 1:07 pmWhat we've seen so far suggests this will be brutal (for us) but nothing to lose, everything to play for.

I guess we did marginally better than expected. Shame our lineout was so poor. But this was against a 14-man France for most of game, even 13 at the end, and they never looked it (although their locks looked like they'd eaten at least one man each for breakfast). Whatever the result we do at least have several players who should make their mark at the senior level. Unfortunately, so do France.Numbers wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2023 4:30 pmJust caught up with the live feed on the fail website and it's halftime, 24-7 to France but they've just had a player sent off so maybe a glimmer of hope, set piece poor as anticipated.Son of Mathonwy wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2023 1:07 pmWhat we've seen so far suggests this will be brutal (for us) but nothing to lose, everything to play for.
Interesting to be almost matching NZ in this competition. Georgia are obviously playing out of their skins . . . should be an interesting one for us on the weekend.

Good work comfortably beating Georgia. Nice to finish ahead of NZ, even if we're behind most of the 6N teams. I don't fancy our chances against Australia but stranger things have happened (in this competition).

Re: U20 World Cup
Poor lineout was a big factor in our big loss to Australia. We'd have struggled enough without that but as it was we had no chance.
Overall an okay WC result of 6th place (same as last time), especially after a dreadful 6N.

And loads of young players who will benefit from the experience and be around for a few more campaigns.Son of Mathonwy wrote: ↑Fri Jul 14, 2023 6:06 pm Poor lineout was a big factor in our big loss to Australia. We'd have struggled enough without that but as it was we had no chance.
