Probably about a strong a team Wales could have put out given injuries and unavailability. There's a core of the rwc squad there and most of those who weren't featured in the warm up squads.

It must have been tempting to try out a young hopeful at full back instead of Halfpenny - in a match that doesn't matter too much. But I guess we don't want to get thrashed by what could be a very good Barbarians team.

I do think these types of matches can sometimes be a hiding to nothing. We know that it's not a full international, with some of our better players unavailable, that its largely a WRU money making exercise with a halfpenny/ AWJ / Tips tribute thrown in. But even with these caveats, a defeat is unlikely to reflect well on Wales, unless perhaps it's a proper old fashioned baa baas game with the ball being chucked around by both sides as an exhibition match. After the disappointment of the RWC Argentina match, a young (ish) Wales XV winning and scoring tries would do nicely. It might mean sweet FA come the 6n, but it would be good to round off the year with a win.

I think this is more of a testimonial match than anything else tbh.

Yeah, getting a win is good for the long term money making machine too. Which I'm not knocking - it's the thing the WRU have never taken their eyes off, and if it falters there'll be no hope for Welsh rugby.

And it will be a nice send off for him. I doubt t Gatland went for that selection call based on that, but its an added bonus.

Wales 21-5 Barbarians at half time. The Babaas look poor. Wales have butchered at least three try scoring chances. North, Dyer, Rogers, Lake, and Wainwright look good.

HP made a stunning series of tackles when Bs looked good to score, ultimately turning the ball over.

One of the things I notice about HP is how well he presents the ball at the breakdown.

Tips clearly in front of the kicker, then he tackles Rogers off the ball, then the guy who scored knocked it on in goal. Try awarded.

Well it’s a typical barbarians fixture.

Same to see HP leave before the end but a well deserved standing ovation.
