Why must they mess with the character so? Hope they retain common sense.

Just because she's said she'd take the role, doesn't mean she's been offered it.

Tom Hiddlestone (35), Michael Fassbender (39), Tom Hardy (38) are all viable candidates.
Idris Elba (44) would have been great, but he needed it when Craig (36 when cast) got the job; no point saying that Craig is too old; so we'll give it to someone 4 years younger to take the franchise on for another 12 years. If they want to shake things up, then Chiwetel Ejiofor (38) would be a far better bet. Gillian Anderson is the wrong gender wrong nationality and wrong age (47).

I see no particular reason why Bond can't be black; but he does need to be male, and he does need to be British. The only way they could get around that is by formalising the idea that the Bond name is a code name passed on to successors - which means redacting the start of Casino Royale, where he's called James Bond without 00 status and without a licence to kill.

Good point there. I always argues against Elba, because I don't think it's a role that would work with him, but Ejiofor feels more like a Bond to me.

However, I definitely feel Fassbender is the best choice (other than Cavell, but he's Superman...). He may not like being tied into the franchise, though.

Not sure franchises bother any of them; I discounted Cavill because he's in 2 (Superman and Man from UNCLE).
Let's face it, Hiddlestone is Marvel's go-to villain; Fassbender is X-Men's go-to villain; whilst Hardy is Mad Max (assuming they want to make more of those).
Personally I'd be delighted with any of my 4 suggestions; what gives me cause for doubt is that we keep hearing names of actors who are the right age now; but would only really get 1 film before being too old (Anderson, Lewis, Elba). You really need a Bond who can go for 10-15 years; and 50 is pushing it age-wise; so you need to look at actors in the 35-40 range; IMO it's as simple as that.

Has Elba ever been in anything where he exudes class? I would genuinely be keen to see it because all I've seen is Luther which I watched recently because it's what everyone talks about and my opinion is he sounds like a slightly retarded Norf Londoner, and about as Bond like as Danny Dyer.

I think Fassbender would be very good, not sure on Hiddleston he is a bit pretty and frail. Ejiofor is a good shout as well, I've liked him in the stuff I've seen.

I thought Hiddleston did well in The Night Manager recently. He's not as muscular as Craig (probably not unsurmountable today with the right training) but he does have that sophisticated edge that is traditional Bond.

Yes it certainly looked like a Bond audition, didn't it?

Very good series.

Its still popular, which means it will continue. They do have a habit of reinventing it with every Bond.

Yep, t'was a good audition.
TBH I'd think that Hiddlestone now still looks more... athletic than Craig did shortly before being cast. Far from insurmountable.

Bond films have been pants for years, nowhere near competing with bourne or mission impossible series. Hell, even Val Kilmers Saint was a better film than any of the recent Bond films.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Do they ever have weemin head villains in Bond films or is it just the occasional hard jobbing of lesbians to show them the error of their ways?

I'd take any of those choices and think they would all be fantastic. I think only now would a black Bond really make sense with the back story of Eton etc. However a friend pointed out that whilst it makes sense to us, it probably doesn't to the Chinese which is a major market for the franchise.

I can't really get my head around how a woman would work as James Bond. A codename passed to successors might do it and if so Anderson would be great. She has absolutely no problem playing British (she's done both Dickens and contemporary).

Wrong. Especially the bit about the XT1052.

Elektra King from The World Is Not Enough, arguably.
I also think it's a role wasted on Elba. He'd be damn suited to being the baddie, which is much more fun role. He's gonna be the gunslinger, though :)

Don't remind me of Brosnan's films. Even Goldeneye, which I remembered fondly, was utter dribble when I tried to watch it again recently. Shame, because I like Brosnan, but those films were pants. On the same level as Quantum of ****

Writing's on the Wall is a song that constantly threatens to build up to something and then just peters away over and over, making it one of the dullest Bond themes ever, and I think that really hobbled Spectre for me right out of the gates.
Yeah, it was shit. Skyfall intro was way better.

I might give you Bourne but Mission Impossible has always been shithouse. Only good thing about the latest one is that it was blatently sponsored by BMW in some way.

Brosnan just didn't look like he could do any damage. He looks like a guy I would bully in the checkout queue at Tescos. Craig looks like a spy at least. Its like comparing Mehrtens to Carter.

As for the Bond name hand me down thing. In Skyfall you see his parents grave, it says Bond on it. So thats that. Its not a name handed down in MI5. Also how stupid would you have to be as a criminal mastermind to not have heard that name. Its like your sitting down at a poker table and some British guy introduces himself as 'Bond, James Bond'

You'd be like, didn't some cnut named James Bond blow up my mates stealth boat a few years back? Yeah. Oh hey this guys a spy!

Couldn't a female Bond film start with him/her checking out of a gender reassignment clinic?

That would work. Or a meeting with M asking whether he had to go so deep undercover that an actual operation was required.
