Being at the last pay at the gate game at Murrayfield in 1973, over 100,000 apparently, though all we knew was that it was impossible to move, apart from swaying when everybody else did.

Fortunately I was pretty pissed up, so didn't really care.

Speaking of piss, it was impossible to move from your spot, so we took the top off our empty jackpot cans, using one of those triangular openers, so the opening resembled a sharks mouth.....I still flinch thinking about the possible consequences.

We might as well have just pissed on the people in front, cos all the cans got kicked over them anyway, whenever the swaying got serious.

Great day, and night, only spoilt by the fact we lost!

1977 Bill McLaren commentating "Gerald Davies, what was he going there." Best try ever. Or one of them at least.
Gerald Davies, what was he doing there?!

Being there for Shane's try that was (probably) in touch. having a chat with a Scot at the bar, his mate had text him to say it was never a try, but a few thousand Welshmen disagreed....

Phil Bennett's try is my favourite, the one that Billy refers to:

I was in the crowd that day. We were in the ground early and the Welsh team were in their suits walking around the pitch.
I thought we were going to do ok, but we looked sluggish and lost 10-9

I can still recall, unfortunately, the day we lost at Murrayfield under the Gyppocaust. One of the worst days I can ever remember.

On the plus side the 05 win on the way to the grand slam is a huge plus. Ryan Jones on the rampage is a great memory.

Sorry to be a pendant but the last pay at the gate was 1975, we boarded the coach in Pengam at 11PM on Friday went strait to M.Field watched the game , which we lost bt 2 points(Trevor Evans scored in the corner but Alan Martin missed the con to draw) on the lash in Princess St till 11 PM when we caught the coach back to Wales

I wasn't sure, so googled it, wrongly as it turns out.

You're right, 75 it was

We had a shorter trip, as all the Welsh lads who had moved to Yorkshire with ICI, hired a coach for the day, still long enough jaunt though.

"What was HE doing there?"
"Put it down, Arwel!"
"By the laws of the game..." - "Sorry, Sir."
"There's a chance here as Hadley comes in..."
"Where did that COME from?!?"
"It's MILES to those goalposts..."
"They've just got to show their composure now..."
"He's not going to do it again...?"
"The arrum is raised... and he's done it again!"

I see that, and I raise you the priceless:

'If the game opens up, it will only benefit Scotland.' Followed by Guscott choking.
